Beginner Level: Build The Foundation
In the Beginner section, we lay the groundwork, not just so you can start editing, but so you actually understand what you're doing. You'll learn how to set up your DaVinci Resolve projects the right way from the jump (no mystery buttons here), get introduced to color grading without feeling overwhelmed, and discover how to make your edits run smoother using proxies, optimized media, and render cache. We’ll stabilize footage, add clean titles and transitions, and break down real brand content to show how these fundamentals come together in actual client work. If you’re brand new to editing or just tired of guessing your way through YouTube tutorials, this is where it all starts.

Intermediate Level: Shape Emotion
Now that you've got the basics down, it's time to elevate your edits. In the Intermediate section, we move beyond just making things “look good” and focus on making them feel intentional. You’ll learn how to structure brand videos into real narratives, use sound design, music, EQ, and reverb to shape emotion, and build momentum with speed ramps, transitions, and pacing. We'll break down how to edit mic’d-up sports content, dramatic dialogue scenes, and fitness brand videos, all using real-world projects with real creative challenges. This is where you start thinking like an editor, not just a button-pusher.

Advanced Level: Cut Like A Pro
The Advanced section is where we dive the deepest. This is where technique meets taste: trailer editing, sound design for horror scenes, masking and VFX, musicality, and the creative decisions that separate good edits from unforgettable ones. You’ll see how I build hype in concert recaps, craft an original music video, and even use AI tools like DaVinci’s Magic Mask to pull off cinematic visuals (yes, including fake rain). Every breakdown comes from a real project: feature films, brand campaigns, viral scenes, and I’ll show you not just how I made each cut, but why. This is the final push, where you stop editing like a beginner and start cutting like a storyteller.
What To Expect From The Course
The Cutting Room Academy is a 21-part editing course for beginner DaVinci Resolve users who are tired of watching YouTubers yell “smash that like button and don’t forget to subscribe!” for 90 seconds before teaching… absolutely nothing. I’m keeping it raw, real, and actually useful. I'm pulling back the curtain to show the exact stuff I use in my day-to-day as a professional editor who's cut everything from feature films to TV shows, trailers, brand highlights, music videos, viral social content and more. We’ll start with the basics (yes, even what Rec.709 actually means), then level up into sound design, VFX, storytelling, and how to make your edits feel like something. After years of working in the industry I've finally gotten the green light to show real client footage, not stock B-roll or spec projects, which has allowed me to build the kind of course I wish existed when I was starting out. These are real campaigns, music videos, branded pieces, and films. This is the kind of footage most editors never get access to, broken down step-by-step so you can actually learn how it was all done. If you watch all 21 videos, I genuinely believe you’ll walk away knowing how to edit just about anything, without needing 15 plug-ins, a film degree, or 7 cups of coffee just to make sense of it all.

Meet Your Instructor - George Lambriodes
Hey, I’m George! I'm a filmmaker, editor, and lifelong storyteller who’s spent the past 15+ years behind the camera and in the cutting room. After a decade in Hollywood running post-production for an independent movie studio, I’ve edited 20+ feature films and docu-style sports pieces for networks like Lionsgate, Hulu, BET+, Tubi, and the Big Ten Network. I’ve also worked with artists like Soulja Boy, Ne-Yo, and Lil Wayne, and cut content for brands like Life Fitness, Amazon, Coca-Cola, and TCL TVs. I didn’t go to film school. I didn’t have a mentor. I’m completely self-taught: just me, YouTube, A LOT of trial and error, and way too many late-night export fails. What I’ve learned over the years is this: great editing isn’t about expensive plug-ins or perfect skin tones. It’s about FEELING. It’s about rhythm, energy, emotion, and making every single cut mean something. No fluff. No gatekeeping. No “stick around for a surprise ending!” Just real-world editing knowledge, broken down step-by-step, with a few jokes sprinkled in so you don’t fall asleep at your desk. Let’s get to work.
